Translation is not a mere transposition from one language into another. This becomes clear with the result of an instant online translation. The IT sector has therefore not yet reached the stage in which human translators can be replaced by translation programs. The accurate interpretation of a source message lays the foundation for a quality translation. A further ingredient is a certain agility with the target language, which should therefore always be the translator's mother tongue. The icing on the cake of a translation is provided by the translator's expertise in a certain knowledge field one the one hand, as well as a vast general knowledge knowledge on the other hand. The latter qualification allows the translator to find the right balance between remaining loyal to the source text and adapting the translation to the target readers.

Taking all this into account, it is obvious that the capacity of being a translator does not lie within any person who speaks more than one language.
